What We Offer

What Saddleworth School can offer!

PARTNERSHIP/PEER REVIEW MODEL

We can offer a tried and tested Peer Review methodology that has been used across the Oldham Borough in primary and secondary settings. The process is controlled by the host Headteacher and involves independent assessments of the schools website, SEF, data and SIP by people who truly understand schools and current expectations. The review team will want to undertake work scrutiny and lesson observations prior to feeding back to the senior team and often governors. Finally a confidential, honest and detailed report is provided but importantly this is owned by the host school.

The scope and duration of the review is negotiated with the Headteacher. As a rule of thumb, primary reviews tend to run over one day and secondary reviews tend to be structured over two.


IN-YEAR FAIR ACCESS REVIEW

In 2017 / 18 Saddleworth School NSS was commissioned by the Oldham Local Authority and secondary Headteacher’s to undertake a review of the In Year Fair Access process. The review was scoped with the LA by Matthew Milburn (NLE) and undertaken over twelve working days by former Headteacher Paul Gallagher. Following detailed interviews with all secondary Heads in the Borough a well crafted report was shared and the recommendations were implemented right across the Oldham Borough leading to far greater clarity and openness regarding the process of allocating hard to place pupils.


RECRUITMENT AND RETENTION OF STAFF

Attracting and holding on to great teachers and school leaders is a real challenge for every school. We have been heavily involved in a number of programmes (with the DfE) to help with the recruitment and retention of high quality leaders and teachers in schools and can offer support to those that need it. It doesn’t have to cost the earth….

We have also taken a lead role in new Headteacher mentoring and established good practices in recruiting and retaining brilliant head teachers regardless of context.


INTERIM LEADERSHIP CAPACITY

As a National Support School we’ve been able to develop significant experience and skills working in school leadership.  We have a close network of excellent school leaders who are available for deployment and committed to ensuring that schools remain stable and productive places.

When Multi Academy Trust, Local Authorities and Governing Bodies need support in running schools they are able to come to Saddleworth NSS. Our NLE, Matthew Milburn meets with commissioners to understand and assess the precise nature of the deployment and to match the right associates with the right schools.

Matthew will work closely with the associates to ensure the right support is being made available via the National Support School.


INTERIM EXECUTIVE BOARD

When schools face challenging circumstances, Saddleworth National Support School has direct experience of leading Interim Executive Boards and we are able to provide suitably experienced Associates to take on the role of Board membership.

We have a number of highly qualified and experienced associates who have worked across a number of local authorities in the north of England and the midlands.


PARTNERSHIP WITH HAYS

Saddleworth National Support School is delighted to be working in partnership Hays recruitment, a leading recruitment agency that have particular interest in Education.

We work together with Hays to ensure that we have a robust source of high quality, new and experienced teachers and leaders available to join schools at whatever level is required.

We have been actively involved in supporting teacher recruitment events and are working at a leadership level to support the appointment of fixed term and permanent school leaders to new roles.
